This publication has been written to provide Foundation and Key Stage One practitioners with additional ideas for each topic in numeracy. The activities are designed to work within the numeracy hour, providing either a warm up to a lesson, an introduction to the main teaching activity or as a plenary. The activities encourage the children to use problem solving skills and mathematical language. Its aim is to make the numeracy hour enjoyable and engage the children’s emotions, two qualities that help to achieve deeper learning. Each activity uses easily available resources and revolves around a crow called CRISPIN, a puppet that is extremely vocal!
